New Beginnings
2020 was a doozy. We began the year with three stores across the state in Lexington, Covington, and Bowling Green. The satellite locations just opened in the fall of 2019 and by April 2020 would shutter permanently. Things did not go how we had planned for the retail leg of the company. We were only able to open the Lexington location for 45 days in the fall before making the decision to close for the remainder of 2020. It has been a blow to our small business, there is no doubt about it. However, we find that at times like this, we always fall back to our grit and resolve as Kentuckians and allow for a shift in how we think about things and how we operate SLK. Now, as we stare optimistically into 2021 with hope that life will soon return to a normal, we have began weighing out the retail side of the company. Our lease for the flagship store ends in May of 2021 and after five years, five different store fronts, cars running through two of them and demolishing them, and now the Covid shut down, we have reached the decision to say goodbye to our sweet corner of Woodland Avenue and Maxwell in the middle of next year. Sigh. It will be okay. We have plans.
Summer 2021
We are not prepared to fully reveal what we have been up to quite yet, but we have been quietly working and renovating a space for the occasion. This concept will be vastly different than anything we have done before and we are excited to begin showing bits and pieces of the process. Stay tuned. We can't wait to show you what is behind these doors.
