What to do this weekend!

by Joni Paynter October 12, 2018

It finally feels like fall in Kentucky y'all! We have a weekend away from the kiddos (we will miss them dearly) and are having a quick staycation in Lexington with a trip to Keeneland and a night at 21C, so I thought I would give a few tips of things to do with the beautiful fall weekend in Kentucky!

Head to the Orchard!

If you are in central Kentucky, there is only one orchard to go to...Evans Orchard in Georgetown. There is apple picking, pumpkins, an enormous kids playground, plus kettle corn, hayrides, and a petting zoo. I am a little partial because we have a full pop up shop out there this weekend, but regardless of that, it seriously is the girls favorite. Their cider is to die for and we don't leave without a slice (or a whole) apple pie. Not to mention the fudge. All. The. Fudge. Go out and visit, it is sure to be an afternoon of family fun!

Head to Keeneland!

Keeneland is where we will be! I expect it to be busy since there is not a football game this weekend, but a fall trip to the races is a must! Outside of the obvious, make sure to get a cup of burgoo and try the apple cider mimosas! This will be our first time without the girls in a few years, so I am sure I will learn some new favorites along the way!

Head to the Jack-o-lantern Spectacular!

The kids love this event. If you are outside of Louisville, it is well worth the drive to Iroquois Park to take the walk! It is filled with over 5,000 carved jack-o-lanterns and these are your typical pumpkins. These pumpkins are little masterpieces! We love bundling up and taking the girls. There is something new to see every year!

Fright Night's at Jacobson Park

Okay. I'm a big weenie so I hate haunted houses, but if they are your thing, Fright Night's is one of the best around. It has been going on for years and is sure to be a spooky good time for kids. Starts around 7:30 at night, so take some coffee or warm apple cider and be prepared to be freaked out!

The Autumn Bazaar at Country Boy Brewing

This is one of our favorite events of the year. Where else can you sip and shop!? This weekend's bazaar is at the Lexington location on Sunday. A great time to try some new beers and see some of the best local vendors!

Here's to fall y'all! Be sure to follow along on my Instagram at Instagram.com/jonipaynter or @jonipaynter. We will be posting stories of our little staycation including where to eat, stay, and play when in Lexington!
