Job Title: Operations Manager
Job Summary
The Operations Manager oversees daily operations of the screen printing facility, ensuring high-quality production, efficient workflows, on-time order fulfillment, and a safe, organized work environment. This role combines leadership, production knowledge, scheduling, quality control, and customer coordination to meet business goals and maintain excellent standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Production
- Manage day-to-day shop operations, including press schedules, setup, and production flow
- Ensure all print jobs meet quality standards for color accuracy, registration, and durability
- Monitor job timelines and adjust schedules to meet deadlines
- Oversee equipment maintenance, screen prep, reclaiming, and ink management
Team Leadership & Training
- Supervise, train, and motivate press operators, print assistants, and support staff
- Assign daily tasks and ensure efficient labor utilization
- Provide ongoing coaching on best practices, safety, and quality control
- Enforce shop policies and maintain a positive, productive work culture
Quality Control
- Inspect test prints and final production runs
- Identify and resolve printing issues quickly (ink problems, screens, substrates, registration)
- Reduce waste and reprints through process improvements
Inventory & Supplies
- Track and manage inventory of inks, garments, screens, chemicals, and supplies
- Coordinate ordering to maintain optimal stock levels
- Minimize material waste and control costs
Customer & Order Coordination
- Work closely with sales, customer service, or clients to clarify job specifications
- Review artwork and production requirements prior to printing
- Communicate job status, delays, or changes as needed
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant shop environment
- Ensure proper use of PPE and safe handling of chemicals and equipment
Reporting & Performance
- Track production metrics such as output, efficiency, and waste
- Provide reports or feedback to ownership/management
- Assist with process improvements and workflow optimization
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of hands-on screen printing experience
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of manual and/or automatic presses
- Experience with screen prep, reclaiming, inks, mesh selection, and garment types
- Excellent problem-solving and time management skills
- Ability to lead by example in a fast-paced production environment
Preferred Skills
- Experience with production management or shop software
- Basic understanding of color theory and separations
- Mechanical aptitude for press and equipment troubleshooting
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Work in a production environment with inks, chemicals, and machinery
